Is it just me or does it seem as though every year passes a little quicker than the last?
Despite my best effort to live in the moment, the hustle and chaos of everyday life often has me asking, “Where did the time go?!”
While the winter season is often filled with goal lists and holiday to-dos, it also serves as a reminder to slow down and reflect on the time that has passed and consider the future ahead.
With the New Year in mind, we wanted to provide our readers with a guide to navigate 2020 as a confident community member in Southeast New Mexico. A new year serves as a new opportunity to refresh and focus on the things that matter to us individually and collectively. In this special edition of Focus magazine, we provide a 2020 Vision through the lens of several community members in Artesia, Carlsbad, & Roswell.
As you flip the pages, you’ll find many familiar faces – doctors, teachers, and life coaches all from our region. It was important to me that the material in this issue came from our local experts. From health and wellness to culture and travel, we have included a variety of articles that will inspire you to live your best life in the year ahead.
To highlight each community, we had the opportunity to share a personal note from Mayor Janway of Carlsbad, Mayor Miller of Artesia, and Mayor Kintigh of Roswell. Each of them took the time to write a vision for their respective community and I’d like to personally thank them for sharing their outlook with our readers! It is an honor to publish their unique perspective as leaders of our cities.
I also want to encourage you to take a moment and notice the sponsor ads through the issue; we wouldn’t be able to produce this publication without their support! The organizations and small businesses you see strewn through these pages deserve some acknowledgment and gratitude from their community! If you enjoy this publication, I encourage you to find an ad from your hometown and give them a call to thank them for supporting Focus magazine.
The year 2020 is profound in that it marks the turn of the decade. In honor of such, we’ve included a fun trivia section that will test your knowledge of historical events over the decades. On page 39 our graphic designer, Tessa, shares her 3-minute Fudge Recipe. This fudge makes for a great party dessert, but I honestly can’t think of a better way to treat myself, yum! Lastly, don’t forget to browse our holiday gift guide on page 30 and shop local this season!
I hope you’ll find new inspiration for yourself and your community within these pages and have a happy new year!
