Mathematics Teacher | Loving Middle School
EDUCATION | B.S. in Mathematics from University of Houston
Tell us a little bit about you…What are your hobbies and interests outside of teaching?
I love water sports…boating, jet skiing, and paddle boarding. In addition, I enjoy reading and life with my 2 fur babies. Traveling with my family is something I really love too!
Tell us about your background and your role(s) in the school system?
I teach 6th, 7th, 8th grade math at Loving Middle School. Prior to this, I taught 2 years in Texas and 8 years in Carlsbad. At that point, I made the decision to take one year off to stay home with my children. One year turned into 29… until I returned to teaching last year!
How has the school system evolved in your experience?
The biggest change in the school system is technology! My biggest fear the first day of school was taking attendance online.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
The most rewarding aspect of my job is the students. There is no better feeling than seeing a child’s face light up with understanding. My students surround me with love all day long without even realizing it.
Do you have a motto or saying that you live by?
I am a no nonsense kind of girl. ‘When things get tough…put on your big girl pants, straighten your crown, and get it done.’
What is the best piece of advice you’d give someone who wants to be a teacher?
My best advice to a new teacher would be…“Love what you teach! It shows when you are teaching and the kids feed off that positive energy.“
