Fall is upon us and it is my favorite time of year.
The fall colors and the crisp air are a refreshing change after the scorching summer temperatures. Football, cozy sweaters, and pumpkin spice; this season brings everything that is good. New Mexico is beautiful this time of year and our communities offer a ton of awesome family activities! Here are 5 fall bucket list items you must experience:
Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta
This annual event is a MUST SEE! For nine days in October, the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta creates an enchanted full-day experience with one-of-a-kind hot air balloons. October 5-13 are the dates for this year’s festival.
Art in the Park
Local artists will showcase and sell their handmade arts and crafts at Central Park in Artesia the morning of Saturday, October 19. This is one of my favorite events every year! From food trucks to face painting and all sorts of unique items to purchase, you have to check it out!
Visit the Pumpkin Patch
Heirloom Acres will be open on weekends in October. Located just 1 mile east of Artesia, visitors will be able to enjoy the corn maze, a pumpkin patch, camp fires, a zip line, corn hole, a petting zoo and more! If you’re looking for a fun scare, be sure to visit the haunted corn maze at Graves Farm, located just south of Roswell. This event is taking place every Friday and Saturday starting October 11th.
Hike the McKittrick Canyon Nature Trail
This trail is actually in the Guadalupe Mountains of Texas but is only a short drive for those of us in southern New Mexico. To experience the most beautiful colors, you should visit in late October or early November. Hiking the trail usually takes between 3-5 hours.
Celebrate Halloween in Downtown Artesia
Spooktacular Saturday will take place on October 26 in downtown Artesia. Decorate sugar skulls at the museum, play games at the library, and Trick or Treat along Main St. with the whole family.
